Bold Adventurers

Elder Reed and Sister Vicki Fanning, LDS Senior Missionaries

October 13, 2015

This morning we were up early to finish prepping the lunch for 27 missionaries today.  They did such a good job cleaning their apartments this transfer, that we told them we would throw a party – which means lunch after district meeting.  Sister Fanning made sweet pork Barbacoa tacos/salads.  We had pinto beans with serrano chilies, lime cilantro rice, lettuce, cheese, salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream.  We also had chips, apples, and mandarin oranges.  Elder and Sister Brown furnished dessert – cherry cobbler with ice cream.

The missionaries were very appreciative of the effort we made.  They helped get the food on the serving tables.  They also helped clean up.  We finished lunch within an hour after the meeting ended so we also fit it into their schedule.

We got home about 2:00.  We did not realize until we started unloading the car how sore we felt from the effort of making and serving the meal.  Sister Fanning got the food put away.  Elder Fanning was up really early this morning so he fell asleep in his chair.  We worked slowly during the afternoon to get dishes done and things put away.

Sister Fanning has most of the new visiting teaching route lists for the visiting teachers on base.  She was asked by the Relief Society President to deliver them.  We stopped at three homes on the base to drop off the route lists.

We also stopped by to see Lacey. Mike had to leave town unexpectedly and Lacey is sick with a sore throat.  We dropped off some apple cider vinegar so she can make honey and vinegar tea to help the throat.  We also dropped off some copies of the Ensign for her.

We had an appointment at 7:00 with a family with three boys and a young adult daughter.  The youngest son was baptized on Saturday.  They are less active mostly because of indifference.  The dad, a sailor, works a second job at a hospital 90 miles away on the weekends.  The young adult daughter is active and attends family home evening.  The mom and sons just don’t bother getting up early to come to Church; however, sometimes one of the sons comes to Church with his older sister.  Sister Fanning gave them a lesson on how important scriptures are and learning and living principles as you read the scriptures.

We got home about 8:00.   We worked some more on the kitchen tonight.  We should be able to finish cleaning up tomorrow.
