Elder Reed and Sister Vicki Fanning, LDS Senior Missionaries

December 31, 2015

Thursday

Today Sister Fanning woke up feeling sick again with a sore throat.  She is wishing that things would get sorted to figure out what is wrong. Sister Fanning went back to bed for a while.

Elder Fanning went to Hanford to take some Books of Mormon to the county jail.  He had a nice conversation with the chaplain.  He also stopped for a car wash and to get his boots shined.  He went to Panera for bread.

We had grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for lunch.  Sister Fanning made some marinade for the tri-tip she bought for tomorrow.  She also made some butter toffee corn for the Ward party tonight.

We spent a lot of time relaxing today.

We left about 5:45 to pick up Tiffany and her nephew for the party tonight.  There were quite a few people there.  So many are out of town, we were not sure of the turnout.  It was just a game night with finger food potluck.  There was a lot of good food.  They set up the volleyball net, had some games for the kids, and we played a game of Phase 10 with the less physically active adults.  The party broke up at 9:00. The young single adults left at 8:00 for a tri-stake dance in Fresno.

We took Tiffany home and talked to her on the way about her texts regarding leaving the church.  We found out she had smoked pot while he grandparents were here because of the stress of her church membership and her grandfather’s anti-Mormon feelings.  She is now back to smoking cigarettes.  She feels that she can’t ever be good enough for the Church.  We left her at home.  She and Elder Fanning continued the texting after we arrived home. She said she considers us her parents in the Church and hates to disappoint us.  At least she is still talking.

Brian also texted Elder Fanning.  He was planning to go out tonight to celebrate.  He was not going to drink.  When he and Crystal got to the club, he discovered it was too hard, so they left and came home.  He commented that he might be able to make it as a good Mormon.

We went to bed late, but did not stay up to see the New Year come in.
